In conversation with: The Woodcutters 2008
Film: duration 3:58
In the film In conversation with: The Woodcutters we witness the artist as he swings
an axe, supposedly performing the labour of the woodcutter to which the title refers.
Shot in the dark, his spot-lit body becomes a theatrical spectre, simultaneously
alluring us to the violence of his action and questioning its own ambiguous existence.
A series of subtitles that appear throughout the film, documenting a conversation
between the artist (A) and the cameraman (C) about how to set up the film-shoot,
further invites us to acknowledge the staged nature of the act being recorded.
